An ORP sensor is only as good as its installation. The same probe that reads steadily for years in a well-designed flow-through cell can drift continuously in a badly placed immersion bracket, and the cause is usually mechanical rather than electronic. This guide covers the five mounting methods supported by the DRH790 digital ORP sensor, the wiring, and the calibration sequence that follows.
Install the electrode within ±30° of vertical. Never install an ORP sensor horizontally and never upside down. The reference chamber must stay flooded and free of trapped air; if an air bubble sits against the reference junction, the potential shifts and the reading becomes permanently offset, no matter how many times you calibrate.
Two related rules from the manufacturer: keep the protective cap fitted while the sensor is being mechanically installed and remove it only when commissioning begins, and choose a location that is easy to reach, because an ORP sensor needs monthly maintenance.
The DRH790 carries a genuine 1" NPT thread at both ends, with 100 mm insertion depth (115 mm including the cleaning connector). That single thread pattern covers the five standard installation types:
In all five cases, mount the probe downstream of the dosing point so it measures fully mixed water, and keep at least one probe diameter of clearance from the tank wall to avoid stagnant pockets.

| Wire color | Terminal definition | Symbol |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Power positive | V+ |
| Black | Power negative | V- |
| White | RS485 data A (+) | AS |
| Green | RS485 data B (-) | BS |
The standard cable is a 10 m PUR-sheathed lead, chosen for resistance to oil, abrasion and UV. Terminal the shield at the controller end only, and keep the RS485 A/B pair as a twisted pair for the whole run. The waterproof aviation plug version is factory terminated and requires no field wiring.
| Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Visual inspection of the platinum ring and body | Monthly |
| Calibration check against standard solution | Monthly, or every two weeks in dirty service |
| Electrode replacement | Yearly, depending on process conditions |
If the probe will not communicate, check the wiring first, then the communication parameters: slave address, baud rate, parity bit and stop bit. If the measured value is abnormal, check whether the platinum ring is clean and whether the sensor is damaged, restore the factory calibration value, clean and recalibrate with standard solution, and finally assess electrode service life.
The DRH790 operates from 9 to 36 VDC at about 0.2 W, is rated IP68 for continuous immersion, and works up to 2 Bar and 50 °C. For installation drawings and fitting selection for your project, contact the Daruifuno technical team with your piping layout and process conditions.
